ZOMIA NOW

The term Zomia refers to a mountainous region in South and Southeast Asia and the anarchist social organization of the people who live there. The inhabitants of this region made a conscious decision to live without state structures. However, just as the whole world has changed rapidly in the last century so has the region of Zomia.

In this photographic documentary I focus on Arunachal Pradesh, a state in northeast India whose population belongs to about 25 indigenous tribes.

I want to document as observer but above all, I want to let people who are directly affected by the process of change in the region have their say and thus give them a platform that would otherwise be denied.
